An actor who struggles with anxiety and depression reached out to me because he was attempted to create a guide to help others. Another was a builder who had spent a lot of time in Russia and recently got his book about his experiences there accepted by a small indie publisher. For example, one person I worked with is a gardener who wrote a series of musings on his life and self-published it. I am especially proud of helping non-writers get their ideas expressed exactly as they want them but in accessible prose. As a result, the editing process has to be efficient and accurate and to a high standard. While Claret Press doesn't publish many books per annum, it does operate as a traditional publishing company, absorbing all the costs of publishing and paying the author through royalties. In that role, I have worked closed with authors at all levels of book creation, from shaping content and structure while remaining true to the author's voice, to doing the final copy edit before the design process. Since 2014, I've been a full-time professional editor with Claret Press, predominantly of non-fiction. I have a PhD in politics and have published with academic presses. A Canadian by birth and education, I have lived and worked in the UK for the past twenty years.
